The Weaver and the Woven

for Sherree

she begins, holding her child close
she passes him through life –
which is to say, through her heart,
stretched with joy and aching –
and back again

creation sings with becoming
threads lose themselves
in the making
their wisdom is knowing other
at home as they are breaking

she wears the scarf
as she passes through her friends
and round again
whole and imperfect
content moving into intent
worn by love

held in the holding
the weaver and the woven

peace has been spoken

but who can end
what is always beginning?
